An Argentine wine, the best sold on Wine.com

January 25, 2012 by Laura Saieg | in News, Web 2.0

As every year, the United States’ largest online sales channel published the Wine.com 100 of the best-selling wines among the site’s customers. An Argentine Cabernet Sauvignon reached the first position and other seven wines from this country were also included in this Top 100 list.

For fifth year, Wine.com announced the list of the Top 100 best-selling wines on its web. The ranking is based entirely on customer preferences and it is not compiled in accordance with scores or critics’ reviews.

Wine.com100 includes wines sold nationally on Wine.com during the first 11 months of 2011. While most publications rank wines are based on the opinions of their wine critics, our customers, by voting with their palate and wallets, determine the Wine.com 100.

During 2011, according to the publication, it could be seen that customers still love California, and still love Cabernet Sauvignon. “But they also enjoy excellent quality at a great price. That said, the average bottle price increased compared with 2010, showing that customers are willing to spend more on collectible bottles,” highlighted Wine.com.

The best-selling wine is from Argentina

2009 Tilia Cabernet Sauvignon, of Esmeralda winery, was number one in online sales, in the Wine.com 100. Apart from being one of the most recommended and mentioned wines on the web, it obtained 91 points from Wine & Spirits.

According to Wine.com, Tilia beat 13,000 wines from all over the world offered on the site, due to its excellent value (USD 9).

In the 18th position, it was included 2008 Catena Malbec (USD19.99). According to critics, it is an exponent that can stay in bottle 4 or 6 more years.

2009 Crios de Susana Balbo Malbec (USD 14.99), Dominio del Plata, reached the 39th place, scoring 90 points in The Wine Advocate. Wine.com mentioned that this wine is a blend made of 90% Malbec and 10% Bonarda.

At a price of USD10.79 and in the 40th position, 2008 Navarro Correas Colección Privada Malbec is found as one of the best Malbec products. “It is excellent to pair with fatty dishes, such as sirloin steak with butter or cream sauce and potatoes,” added Wine.com.

Moreover, 2010 Crios de Susana Balbo Torrontés (USD 12.99) achieved the 42nd position of the list. This wine “boasts intense aromas that are surprisingly similar to Viogner, whereas on the palate, it offers a good structure and acidity akin to Sauvignon Blanc,” according to the publication.
The list also included 2008 Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec as number 66, with a price of USD 15.99. “On the palate, it is a very integrated product displaying delicate tannins and a complex finish,” pointed out Wine.Com.

In addition, 2007 Punto Final Malbec Reserva, of Bodega Renacer (USD 16.79) also appears in the Top 100 list, occupying the 67th position and it was regarded as one of the favorites by both consumers and critics.

Finally, priced at USD 12.29 in the 77th place, 2009 Belasco de Baquedano Llama Malbec was considered one of the favorite exponents by the site’s customers, in 2011.
