Jay Stuart Miller, member of Robert Parker´s team, is the one who rates the New World wines. Miller published in The Wine Advocate the list of the 186 top wines from Argentina, together with their scores.
This time, the awards were warmly received by Catena Zapata, who got the best scores with two of its wines: Nicolás Catena Zapata 2006 and Catena Zapata Argentino Vineyard 2006, which achieved 97 and 96 points respectively. Besides, the critics rated Malbec Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard 95 points and Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard 94 points.
Following these scores, the well known winery Achaval Ferrer achieved 96 points for its high quality Malbec Finca Bella Vista.
Another wine that got an excellent score was Renacer Malbec 2006. Patricio Reich, Renacer`s owner, said that "these 94 points are the result of the effort made by the whole Renacer`s staff in order to create a unique wine."
With 95 points, Alta Vista Alto was awarded for its quality. Benoît Berneron, commercial director, pointed out that since the first harvest in 1998, this product determined the spirit of making great wines.
Furthermore, Bressia Bodega wines achieved more than 90 points: 2005 Bodegas Bressia Conjuro Malbec got 93 points and 2005 Bodegas Bressia Malbec Profundo 92 points.
Moreover, O. Fournier Malbec-Syrah 2005 was awarded with 93 points. José Manuel Ortega, chairman of the group, highlighted that this product is special for the winery since they only produce 3,000 bottles.
Finally, Icono de Luigi Bosca a blend 55% Malbec and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon was rated 93 points by Miller. As regards this award, Alberto Arizu (son), commercial director of the winery, said that "this is a full-body wine that develops a lot month by month. It is an elegant wine with a delicate texture granted by its double aging in new oak."
