Family owned-winery’s 2008 Gimenez Riili Gran Reserva Malbec and 2008 Gimenez Riili Reserva Malbec were granted 92+ points and 89 points respectively by Wine Advocate Magazine (Robert Parker) in last December’s issue.
Bellow Dr. Jay Miller’s reviews:
2008 Gimenez Riili Gran Reserva Malbec: It’s a worthy successor to the 2007 (rated 93 points). It was sourced from a 4.4-acre parcel of 41-year-old Malbec vineyards and aged in French oak for 18 months. It displays greater density and richness than the Reserva cuvee along with an alluring bouquet of spicy black fruits. Give this nicely proportioned Malbec another 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it from 2014 to 2023+.
2008 Gimenez Riili Reserva Malbec: this Malbec was sourced from a single vineyard in Vista Flores and went through malolactic and aging in barrel. Notions of wood smoke, earthy minerals, spice box, lavender, and black cherry set the stage for a ripe, velvety-textured, layered Malbec with excellent depth and length. It has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, at which point it could well merit an outstanding rating.
